SUMMARY:Embody: 2026 Senior Art and Design Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Embody\, an exhibition exploring what it means to inhabit a body in space. The works presented here examine the tension between the physical and the spiritual\, beauty and rawness\, memory and invention. Featuring eight seniors of the 2026 Mercer University Class of Art and Design\, this exhibition approaches the body as both subject and vessel — personal\, political\, imagined and real. Each artist engages embodiment through their own lens\, inviting viewers to consider their own presence within the gallery and beyond it. Embody asks you to slow down and become aware: of sensation\, of emotion\, of memory. It creates room for wonder\, discomfort\, reflection and connection. The body is not presented as fixed or singular\, but as something fluid—shaped by history\, environment\, and lived experience. Working across ceramics\, photography\, illustration\, fashion\, performance\, and expanded media\, the artists build a layered environment that reflects the complexity of being human. What you encounter here is not just an image of the body\, but an experience of it. Opening reception Friday\, April 10 at 6 p.m.

SUMMARY:The Surprising Truths About College Majors and Entry-Level Jobs — Research Talk by Dr. Corey Moss-Pech
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Corey Moss-Pech\, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Florida State University whose research sits at the intersection of higher education and the labor market\, will come to Macon campus to discuss his recent research book “Major Trade-Offs: The Surprising Truths about College Majors and Entry-level Jobs\,” published in 2025 by the Chicago University Press. \nIn this book\, Dr. Moss-Pech argues that not only do humanities majors learn real-world skills\, but they actually use them when they graduate. But graduates with so-called practical degrees like business and engineering are much more likely to find employment and earn higher salaries\, although they may not use their degree-related skills as much. \nHow do we understand and alleviate the general misconceptions about the liberal arts education despite the valuable skills that students acquire during their studies? Dr. Moss-Pech’s research addresses this question by following students from different majors as they enter the workforce and conducting nearly 200 interviews with roughly 90 students from different humanities as well as more practical majors (e.g.\, communication\, English\, Business\, Engineering). \nOf interest to students\, educators\, and employers\, Major Trade-Offs calls on colleges and universities to advocate for liberal arts majors\, leveling the playing field for students as they plan for entry-level work.
