SUMMARY:Mercer University Opera Presents "The Trial of Susan B. Anthony"
DESCRIPTION:The Trial of Susan B. Anthony is a new opera with tremendous impact on many levels.  The famous suffragette was arrested in 1872 for attempting to vote\, and the text of this opera was taken directly from her trial. Set as a tour de force for one singer\, Steven Mark Kohn’s rich\, gorgeous music of our time brings her story in her own words powerfully to life as reminders of the human search for equal justice.  The piece is especially resonant now\, as all through the year2020 Americans have celebrated the hundredth anniversary of women’s first votes in our country.
