SUMMARY:Founders' Day
DESCRIPTION:Founders’ Day began in 1891 and was created as a celebration of Jesse Mercer’s birthday. During the mid-1990s\, the Student Government Association brought Founders’ Day back to the Macon campus as one of the most cherished traditions. Join us as we celebrate this tradition as a prominent Mercerian is invited back to the University to share how Mercer has influenced his or her life.

SUMMARY:Harvest Fest
DESCRIPTION:This year\, Harvest Fest will be on Wednesday\, October 26th from 5:30pm to 7pm in Greek Village. Please plan to start setting up at 4:30pm ensuring that you are ready by 5:30pm. Also make sure that you clean up after the event is ended. \nHarvest Fest is an event hosted by Mercer Panhellenic for Macon elementary students and their families to visit Mercer for an afternoon of crafts and fun. Organizations are invited to set up a table with a craft or some other activity for the kids. If you are interested in participating\, register through this link by Wednesday\, October 19 at 11:59pm. Panhellenic Community Service will be in contact with you about which of your craft or activity ideas can be used during the event. To create a dynamic event\, some organizations may not host their first choice of activity. \nLastly\, because the event is so close to Halloween\, there has been a tradition of serving individually packaged candy at each table. While this is not required\, it certainly makes the event especially memorable for the kids. If you choose to provide candy\, please make sure that there is something for everyone and is allergy-friendly. Let us know if you need any assistance providing candy or an activity for your table. In addition\, have your member dress in a costume or wear a shirt of your organization at the event. \nPlease contact us if you have any questions at mupancommunityservice@gmail.com

SUMMARY:An Evening with Dom Flemons: Performance
DESCRIPTION:Dom Flemons is originally from Phoenix\, Arizona\, and currently lives in the Chicago area with his family. He has branded the moniker The American Songster® since his repertoire of music covers over 100 years of early American popular music.\n\nFlemons — a Grammy award winner and two-time Emmy nominee — is a songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, producer\, actor\, slam poet\, music scholar\, historian and record collector. He is considered an expert player on the banjo\, guitar\, harmonica\, jug\, percussion\, quills\, fife and rhythm bones. Flemons was selected for the prestigious 2020 U.S. Artists Fellowship Award for the Traditional Arts category\, which was generously supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.\n\nIn 2020\, Dom Flemons re-issued his album titled “Prospect Hill: The American Songster Omnibus” on Omnivore Recordings. The two-CD album features three parts: The original Prospect Hill album\, the 2015 EP “What Got Over” and “The Drum Major Instinct” which includes 12 previously unissued instrumental tracks. His original song “I Can’t Do It Anymore” was released on a limited edition wax cylinder recording.\n\nRecently\, he released a cover of the Elmore James classic “Shake Your Money Maker\,” recorded at Sun Studio in Memphis\, Tennessee\, alongside Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band and featured guest\, legendary guitarist Steve Cropper. He played his six-string banjo (Big Head Joe)\, quills and bones on Tyler Childers groundbreaking album “Long Violent History” and played jug alongside Brandford Marsalis on the soundtrack to “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” on Netflix.\n\nFlemons currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Steve Martin Banjo Prize and Music Maker Relief Foundation and is a governor on the Board of Directors for the Washington\, D.C.\, chapter of the Recording Academy.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Dom Flemons: Lecture
