Countdown to 19: Walking Toward Peace: Finding Inner Peace

University Minister’s office will be hosting a two-day conference on meditation followed by a walk for peace on Oct. 18.

The conference will be led by the Venerable Maha Dam Phommasan, a Buddhist monk who has become a Mercer friend. He was one of the monks who participated in the national Peace Walk last year. During the early days of the walk, he was struck by a vehicle, was badly injured, eventually requiring the amputation of his leg. This last spring, the Mercer On Mission prosthetics team fit Maha Dam with a prosthetic leg.

The meditation conference will be held on October 16 and 17. Registration is required for the conference but not the Peace Walk on Oct. 18.

This event is part of Mercer University’s Countdown to 19, a university-wide celebration of the historic investiture of Penny L. Elkins, Ph.D., as Mercer’s 19th president. The investiture ceremony, to be held on October 29 and streamed live, will provide the global Mercer community the opportunity to participate in this landmark occasion from anywhere in the world.
