Saxophonist Matthew Patnode is associate professor of saxophone and jazz studies at North Dakota State University in Fargo. He has earned degrees and certificates from the State University of New York at Potsdam, the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, France, and Arizona State University. He has studied saxophone with Joseph Wytko, Joe Viola and Jean-Marie Lond. As a member of the FM Jazz Arts Big Band, he has performed with such noted artists as Buddy DeFranco, Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, Allen Vizzutti and Bud Shank. He has also performed in commercial groups backing up singers Ray Charles, Kurt Elling, Rosemary Clooney, Frankie Valli, Bobby Vinton, Wayne Newton, the Temptations and the Four Tops.
