Saxophonist Matthew Patnode is associate professor of saxophone and jazz studies at North Dakota State University in Fargo. He has earned degrees and certificates from the State University of New York at Potsdam, the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, France, and Arizona State University. A thoughtful MMSO concert highlights the diversity of American experiences: “From the New World,” created when Czech-born Dvořák was working in the U.S., and one of the most popular orchestral pieces from an American composer, Bernstein’s Candide overture. An event to commemorate the work of students and artists in the creation of a mural representing the Macon-Mercer community. The program will focus on education about the processes of social justice and the importance of public art and anthropology in communities.
