The youth engagement committee with MerServe will be holding a Sports Equipment Drive for school children in the Macon-Bibb community. This event is planned for the week of November 29th - December 3rd. MerServe encourages the student body along with faculty and staff to gather any sports equipment, athletic clothing, etc. over Thanksgiving break. This holiday tradition, hosted by the Student Government Association, annually draws more than 500 students as well as faculty, staff and their families to Willingham Auditorium. The Mercer Singers lead the audience in carols, the University Minister offers a Christmas meditation, and a faculty member entertains the audience with a traditional Christmas reading. Group work can be affected by student personality type, energy and tasks assigned. Specific strategies to improve group discussion will be presented, including pre-reading, brief in-class preparation work, timing, and more. Drop in reception to honor Rhonda Lidstone's retirement from Mercer's Human Resources office. Reception will be located in the Lofts at Mercer Landing Leasing Office, next door to Human Resources.

The best questions enable and encourage students to participate in class. The best questions focus the students' attention and draw out either their misconceptions or their accurate grasp of concepts. This session will present 10 categories of questions that faculty members can use to improve student participation.
