“Freedom Seekers” Exhibit

When: The exhibit runs through March 22. Museum hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Where: Tubman African American Museum, 310 Cherry St., Macon Details: In collaboration with the museum, Mercer Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies Dr. Matt Harper and students in his African American history course researched and curated an exhibit that features advertisements for runaway slaves published in the Macon Telegraph from 1823-1865. Museum admission is free for museum members and Mercer students and $5 for all others.

Atlanta Science Festival Exploration Expo

Mercer University and Mercer Health Sciences Center are sponsors of the annual Atlanta Science Festival (ASF) — the city’s ultimate celebration of all things science and one of the largest of its kind in the country. The ASF culminates in the Exploration Expo, a giant science bash held March 22 at Piedmont Park from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Sociology Department Guest Speaker Series: Mercer Alumnus Discusses a Decade of Social Work and Community Service in Macon

Former sociology student at Mercer Rhonda Ross-Hunter is an experienced social service professional with extensive experience in foster care and community engagement. Currently serving as a Case Manager at Brookdale Resource Center (homeless shelter), Rhonda focuses on assisting local unhoused citizens with employment resources and housing options. Rhonda holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology from Mercer University and a Masters degree from Fort Valley State University.
