
Beloved Community Symposium
Mercer University's 17th Annual Building the Beloved Community Symposium welcomes Daniel Hill, pastor of Chicago's River City Community Church and author of White Awake: An Honest Look at What It Means to Be White. The symposium gathers members of the community and faculty, staff, and students across racial and denominational lines to work toward racial justice and reconciliation as a part of their faith. This year's theme: What is my responsibility for racial justice and healing?

An epic tale spanning 40 years in the life of Celie (Whoopi Goldberg), an African-American woman living in Georgia who survives incredible abuse and bigotry. This gripping historical fiction is based on the novel by Alice Walker, originally from Middle Georgia. The Oprah-produced 1985 film will screen here at The Grand before the musical movie filmed only blocks away in downtown Macon premieres next year.
