Baccalaureate is a faith-based service that is student led and held in Willingham Auditorium. Macon undergrad students will process across the campus in regalia before the event, will touch Jesse Mercer’s head for luck and see their faculty before the event. An epic tale spanning 40 years in the life of Celie (Whoopi Goldberg), an African-American woman living in Georgia who survives incredible abuse and bigotry. This gripping historical fiction is based on the novel by Alice Walker, originally from Middle Georgia. The Oprah-produced 1985 film will screen here at The Grand before the musical movie filmed only blocks away in downtown Macon premieres next year.
