Lights on Afterschool

Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities. MerServe participates in Lights on Afterschool by hosting fun and engaging art, STEM, and sports activities throughout local elementary and middle schools. Mercer University’s Creative Writing Program will host a reading by award-winning poet Charlotte Pence Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Presidents Dining Room inside the University Center on the Macon campus. The event, free and open to the public, will include poetry from Pence’s new book, Code, which received the 2020 Book of the Year award from Alabama Poetry Society and was a finalist for Foreword Reviews Indie Poetry Book of 2020.
