The Lamar Lecture series, made possible by the bequest of the late Dorothy Blount Lamar, began in 1957. The series promotes the permanent preservation of Southern culture, history, and literature, and it is recognized as the most important lecture series on Southern history and literature in the United States. The University of Georgia Press publishes The Lamar Lecture Series. Scott Romine, a professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, will deliver the 2020 lecture.

Javoski Harden (CoPA 2019) will receive an award for Volunteer Caregiver of the Year. The award will be presented in front of the Stembridge Center for Student Success, the former Senior Citizens Center, where the Mercer registrar in Macon is now located.
